How it works

A bad position is worse than a late one

Most "wrong location" complaints are not a missing update. They are a bad update, published without comment. Orbit grades every fix before anyone sees it, and throws away the ones it cannot stand behind. These are the actual thresholds.

Too vague to draw

A fix with a wider error than this says little more than "in this town", so it is dropped rather than drawn — unless nothing has arrived for five minutes, when even a rough answer beats none.

Too fast to be true

An implied speed above this between two fixes means one of them is wrong. That is the glitch that teleports someone across town and snaps back a minute later. Orbit never shows it.

Too small to be movement

A phone on a table drifts. Movement smaller than our own uncertainty is noise, not travel, so the dot stays where it is instead of wandering around the living room all evening.

Location history

The hours nobody can account for

Replay any day. Where they stopped, how far they drove, how fast. And — this is the part no other app will show you — the stretches where there is simply no record, drawn as gaps instead of a confident line straight through them.

Privacy

The person being followed holds the controls

Location sharing works when the person sharing trusts it. So the settings that matter belong to them, they are enforced on the server rather than hidden in someone else's app, and using them is nobody else's business.

Hide from one person

Stay visible to everyone in a circle except the one person you would rather not share with. Their app never receives your position at all.

Pause without an announcement

Stop sharing whenever you like. Your circle sees "not sharing" — not a banner telling everyone you turned it off, which is social pressure wearing a feature's clothes.

No notification is sent

Decide how long history lives

Off, 24 hours, 7 days or 30. Your choice, applied to what is already stored as well as what comes next, and enforced by the server rather than by us remembering to.

Delete everything in one tap

SOS overrides all of it

One exception, and it goes the safe way: an SOS reaches everyone in the circle including anyone you have hidden from. The confirmation says so before you send.

What we don't build

The features we left out on purpose

A safety app can grow indefinitely by adding things that sound protective. Here is what we decided against, and why — so you can judge the reasoning rather than take our word for it.

Crash detection

Done badly it is worse than absent. A false alarm sends people running; a missed crash is a promise broken at the worst possible moment. Doing it properly takes sensor-fusion work and liability cover we do not have, so we do not claim it.

Bundled insurance, roadside, ID monitoring

These are the reason family trackers feel like a shop. They are revenue features in a safety costume, and they are what turns an app you trust into an app you tolerate.

Driving scores

We summarise trips — distance, duration, top speed — because that is what the location data honestly supports. Grading someone's braking needs sensor data we do not collect, and an answer to "what is the score for?" better than making a parent anxious.

Selling where you have been

Not to data brokers, not to advertisers, not in aggregate. A location app funded by the locations it collects is working for someone other than the family using it.

One tier. It is free.

No Silver, Gold or Platinum. Nothing about your family's safety sits behind a card number, because a feature that creates worry so a paid tier can relieve it is not a safety feature.
