Deleting your account and data

You can delete everything Orbit holds about you, at any time, without asking anyone's permission and without giving a reason.

Delete from inside the app

This is the quickest route and it happens immediately.

Open Orbit
Go to Settings
Scroll to Delete my account
Confirm

Your account, your positions, your location history, your places, your events and your preferences are removed. You are taken out of every circle you belong to.

Request deletion by email

If you no longer have the app, cannot sign in, or would rather we did it, email support@londonj.co.uk with the subject Delete my Orbit account.

Send it from the email address on the account. If your account has no email address attached — accounts created silently on first launch do not — tell us the display name your circle saw and the invite code of a circle you belonged to, and we will verify with another member before deleting anything.

We respond within 7 days and complete deletion within 30 days.

What gets deleted

Data	What happens
Your account and sign-in	Deleted. The email address can be used to sign up again later as a new account
Your last known position	Deleted from every circle
Your location history	Deleted from every circle
Your display name	Removed from every circle's member list
Your events	Arrivals, departures, check-ins, low-battery alerts and SOS records are deleted
Your preferences	Sharing settings, hidden-from lists, alert settings and quiet hours are deleted
Your push token	Deleted, so the phone can no longer be sent alerts

What does not get deleted

Circles you created that other people still use. Deleting your account does not delete a circle out from under its remaining members. You are removed from it and ownership passes to another member. If you want the whole circle gone, delete it in the app before deleting your account, or say so in your email.
Places other members saved. A place belongs to the circle, not to the person who added it.
Backups. Our database provider keeps rolling backups which are overwritten within 30 days. Your data is not restored from them, and it disappears as they cycle.

Deletion is permanent. There is no undo and no grace period during which we can recover your history. If you only want to stop sharing for a while, turn sharing off in Settings instead — that keeps your account and stops collection immediately.

If you want less than full deletion

All of these are in the app and take effect at once:

Stop being located — Settings → turn off Share my location. Collection stops.
Delete only your history — Settings → Location history → Delete my history.
Stop recording history — Settings → Location history → Off.
Hide from one person — Settings → Who can see me.
Leave a circle — your position and history for that circle are deleted as you go.
